Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary watch for a while now. It’s not just any watch, it’s the Snoopy one, you know? I heard it’s pretty hard to get, but I really wanted it, so I started looking around.
First, I went to a bunch of different Omega stores. Most of them just laughed and said you need to spend like $50k to $100k just to get on their waiting list! Can you believe that? But then, I talked to this guy, a friend of a friend, who actually got his in just two months! And he didn’t even spend that much, he said. That gave me some hope.
Then I started reading stuff online, about how to tell if it’s a real one or a fake one. There’s this whole thing about the OS factory making copy of these Snoopy watches, and there are ways to spot them. It’s crazy! I also found out that this 50th-anniversary edition isn’t even a limited edition, but it’s still super rare because Omega’s not making enough of them. That seemed strange to me. The stores had told me that two were released: one having 5441 pieces issued—the length of time the ill-fated mission lasted and the second release.
Anyway, I finally decided to just go for it. I went to the official Omega store, and you know what? I actually got one! I paid the normal price, no crazy markups. I was so happy I almost cried. I got a special presentation box for it.
Now, let me tell you, this watch is something else. It’s got this cool Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 movement. What the heck does that mean? I don’t know either, but it sounds fancy. The best part is the back of the watch. It’s got this little animation of Snoopy flying to the moon. It’s so cool! I heard that this is what makes this version different from the older Snoopy watches, where they only had a small picture of Snoopy, but the 50th Anniversary version takes a very different tack.
I chose to get it with a strap instead of a bracelet. Some people online said it’s better because you can see the back of the watch more easily. Makes sense, I guess. So yeah, that’s my story of how I got my hands on this awesome Snoopy watch. It was a bit of a journey, but totally worth it!
Here are some details I noticed:
- The watch has a white dial with blue accents.
- Snoopy is on the 9 o’clock subdial.
- The case back is where the real magic happens!
- The OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, a non-limited edition watch.
What I Learned
Getting one of these watches is not easy. You gotta be persistent, maybe a little lucky, and definitely ready to do some research. But if you really want it, it’s possible! Don’t let those crazy prices scare you off. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the fakes. You gotta watch out for those.
