Okay, here is my sharing about how I did a high imitation of the Rolex GMT-Master II, just like the one from the official flagship store.
A few months ago, I got this crazy idea in my head. I really wanted a Rolex GMT-Master II, the one with the oyster bracelet, you know, model 126710. But those things are expensive! So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? Yeah, a high imitation, just for fun.
Getting Started
First, I needed to figure out how these watches are put together. I spent days watching videos and reading forums. It’s surprisingly complicated. I learned that the order of the hands is super important. On a real Rolex GMT-Master II, it goes Hour, GMT, then Minutes. If the hands are in any other order, it’s a dead giveaway that it’s a fake. I made a note to get that right.
Gathering Materials
Next, I started looking for parts. This was a real adventure. I found some decent-looking watch cases and bracelets online, and after digging, I stumbled upon some movements that looked similar to the real deal. They weren’t exactly the same, but they were close enough for my project. I ordered a bunch of different parts, hoping to mix and match to get the best look.
The Assembly
When the parts arrived, I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. I cleared my desk, got my tools ready, and started assembling. It was a lot harder than I thought. Those little screws and gears are a nightmare to handle! I spent hours trying to get everything to fit just right. There were times when I thought about giving up, but I kept pushing.
The Hands
Remember what I said about the order of the hands? Well, that was the trickiest part. I had to be super careful to get them in the correct order: Hour, GMT, Minutes. I used tweezers and a magnifying glass, and after a few tries, I finally got it right. It looked pretty darn good if I do say so myself.
Finishing Touches
Once the movement and hands were in place, I attached the dial and the bezel. Then, I carefully placed the crystal on top. The last step was attaching the bracelet. I chose an oyster bracelet because that’s the one I like the most. It snapped into place perfectly.
The Result
After all that work, I finally had my high imitation Rolex GMT-Master II. It looked amazing! Of course, it wasn’t perfect. A real watch expert could probably spot the differences in a second. But to the average person, it looked just like the one from the official flagship store. I was pretty proud of myself.
