Alright, so I saw this Prada Symbole Tote Bag at their official flagship store the other day, and I was like, “Damn, that’s nice, but whoa, that price tag!” I mean, we’re talking some serious cash here. But the bag was just so darn pretty, especially that white leather one with the geometric pattern. So, I got this crazy idea – why not try to remake it myself? Sounds nuts, I know, but hear me out.

First things first, I went back to the store, pretending to be all interested and stuff, just to get a good look at the bag again. I snapped some pictures (sneaky, I know), focusing on the details, like how the leather pieces were stitched together and that cool geometric design. I noticed it had three main compartments inside, lined with what looked like Nappa leather. Also, the edges and some parts at the top were reinforced with Saffiano-print leather. And there was this little clochette thingy attached, which I guess is just for decoration.

Next, I hit up some local fabric and leather stores. I was on a mission to find materials that looked and felt similar to the original. I found some white leather that was pretty close in texture and a fabric with a similar geometric pattern. It wasn’t exactly the same, but hey, it’s a remake, not a replica, right? I also picked up some black leather for the edges and reinforcements, trying to match that Saffiano look. For the inside, I went with a soft, dark-colored fabric because I didn’t have any Nappa leather and I didn’t want to spend a ton on that.

Now came the hard part – actually making the bag. I’m no professional, but I’ve dabbled in sewing and crafting before. I started by making a pattern, using the pictures I took as a reference. I carefully cut out the leather and fabric pieces, making sure to get the sizes and shapes as accurate as possible. It was a lot of measuring, cutting, and double-checking, to make sure I had enough space for the compartments and everything.

Then came the sewing. Oh boy, was that a challenge. I used my trusty old sewing machine, but it was tough getting those stitches neat and straight, especially on the leather. I definitely messed up a few times and had to redo some parts. The geometric design was the trickiest. I tried to topstitch it onto the white leather, just like the original, but it was way harder than it looked. I also added the black Saffiano-like leather to the edges and top, to give it that reinforced look.

After what felt like forever, I finally finished sewing all the pieces together. I added some simple snap-lock clasps I found at a hardware store, because those were the cheapest option and I’m not trying to make an exact copy. I even made a little clochette-like thing out of some leftover leather scraps, just for fun. I lined the inside with the soft, dark fabric and made sure to have those three compartments like the real bag.

  • Research and Observation: Went to the store, took pictures, observed details.
  • Material Gathering: Sourced similar white leather, geometric fabric, black leather, lining fabric.
  • Pattern Making: Created a pattern based on the pictures.
  • Cutting: Cut out the leather and fabric pieces.
  • Sewing: Sewed the pieces together, added the geometric design and Saffiano-like leather.
  • Finishing Touches: Added clasps, made a clochette, lined the inside.

And there you have it – my homemade version of the Prada Symbole Tote Bag. It’s definitely not perfect. The stitches aren’t as clean, the materials aren’t as luxurious, and the overall quality is nowhere near the original. But you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it. It was a fun and challenging project, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, I saved a ton of money! I mean, the cheapest Prada Symbole bag is like $1, and the most expensive Brandy Top Handle V2 is $10,200! I’m definitely not spending that much on a bag. And I think this homemade one has its own unique charm. It’s a reminder that sometimes, you can create something special with your own two hands, even if it’s a bit rough around the edges.
