Okay, so I wanted to try to imitate this Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Rendez-Vous Moon Classic Style watch. It looked super fancy and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” I started by gathering all the info I could find about this watch. I looked at pictures, read descriptions, and even watched some videos. It was all about getting a feel for what makes this watch special.
First, I noticed the supple steel bracelet. It gives the watch this modern vibe, which is pretty cool. I made a note to try and get a similar bracelet for my imitation.
Then I got into the technical stuff. The watch has an automatic movement, and it’s 36mm in size, which seemed important. I found out it’s also in rose gold with a blue leather strap and cost about 86. I realized I needed to find a way to mimic the automatic movement and that rose gold look.
- Started with the basics: size, material, movement.
- Looked up similar styles and components online.
- Tried to understand the mechanics behind the automatic movement.
I spent a good amount of time just observing how everything worked together. I was really focused on figuring out the name of the site because I had a simple fix to try.
I tried to break down the process into smaller steps. Like, first, get the basic shape right. Then, work on the details like the numbers and the hands. I used some tools I had at home and tried to shape the materials to match the images I found. It wasn’t easy, and I messed up a few times, but I kept going. I found that I could check if a number is a palindrome or not by doing some basic math, though I’m not sure how that fits into watchmaking, but it seemed interesting!
I also tried to use a checklist that I found online. It was meant for plugin developers, but I thought, “Hey, it might work for this too.” It helped me to kind of self-critique my work and see where I could improve.
Getting the Look Right
The hardest part was definitely getting that rose gold look. I tried a few different techniques and finally found one that worked okay. It wasn’t perfect, but it was close enough. I also managed to find a blue leather strap that looked similar to the original, and that made a big difference.
In the end, I managed to create something that looked somewhat like the Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Moon Classic. It wasn’t an exact replica, but it captured the essence of the watch. I was pretty happy with how it turned out, considering it was my first time trying something like this. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way.
