I’ve been wanting to make this Prada Arqué Leather Shoulder Bag for a while now. I finally got around to it, so let me tell you how I did it.

First things first, I had to get my hands on some good leather. Not that cheap stuff, but the real deal, you know? I wanted something that would look and feel like the original. I remember reading somewhere that Prada used to use this special leather called Saffiano. It’s got this cross-hatch texture that’s pretty recognizable. Apparently, other brands like Michael Kors and Tory Burch use it too, but I wanted to stick with what Prada originally used, even though I’m not going for Saffiano this time.

Once I got the leather sorted, I started cutting out the pieces. This bag’s got a pretty cool shape, kind of like a half-moon, so I had to be extra careful with the curves. I used a really sharp knife to make sure the edges were clean and smooth. It took a bit of time, but hey, good things take time, right?

Next up was sewing. Now, I’m no expert, but I’ve done a few leather projects before, so I know my way around a sewing machine. I used a heavy-duty needle and some strong thread to make sure the seams would hold up. I double-stitched everything, just to be safe. It is kind of like those Quality Assurance Tags or Factory Tags that display a printed number in black, usually “1,” “2,” or “3.” They’re small, white, square tags sewn into the interior pocket’s seam, and I saw these tags in the original bags. Of course, I didn’t make them because I am remaking them.

  • Cutting the leather: This was the most nerve-wracking part. One wrong cut, and I’d have to start all over.
  • Sewing the pieces together: This took the longest. I had to go slow and make sure every stitch was perfect.
  • Adding the hardware: This was the fun part. I got to see the bag finally come together.

After the main body of the bag was done, I moved on to the strap. This bag can be worn as a shoulder bag or a crossbody, so the strap had to be adjustable. I used a buckle and some extra leather to make it work. And the strap is adjustable.

Finally, I added the finishing touches. I polished the leather to give it a nice sheen and added a little Prada logo on the front. It’s not exactly like the original, but I think it looks pretty darn good.

Overall, I’m really happy with how this bag turned out. It was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it. Now I’ve got a unique, handmade bag that’s perfect for everyday use. It has a refined and versatile design, and I made it with my own hands. How great is that?
