It was definitely not a Patek, but it had potential. I took the whole thing apart, which was nerve-wracking, by the way. I was so afraid of breaking something.
Now, the dial was the hardest part. I tried a few different things, even tried to hand-paint one, which was a total disaster! Let’s just say my painting skills are not exactly up to par. Eventually, I found a place online that could custom-print a dial for me. I sent them a design I made based on the 5980’s dial, and it came out pretty decent.

The hands were another challenge. I couldn’t find any that were exactly like the 5980’s, so I had to modify some existing ones. I used a tiny file and a lot of patience to reshape them. It was a slow and tedious process, but I think I got them pretty close.
After weeks of work, I finally managed to put it all together. And you know what? It actually looked pretty good! It wasn’t perfect, of course, but it had that Nautilus vibe. It felt heavy and solid on my wrist, just like I imagined a real one would.
I wore it around for a few days, just to see how it felt. It was a cool feeling, knowing I had made it myself. Of course, anyone who knows anything about watches could tell it wasn’t a real Patek, but that wasn’t the point. The point was the process, the challenge, the satisfaction of creating something with my own hands.
