So I saw this PRADA Symbole Tote Bag the other day, and I thought, “Hey, I bet I could make something like that.” It’s a classic style, you know? Something that never really goes out of fashion. And, honestly, I wasn’t about to drop a couple of grand on a bag, no matter how pretty it was.
First things first, I needed to find a good fake. You wouldn’t believe how many are out there! I wanted something that looked like it, but, was not a total rip-off. I’m not into that counterfeit stuff. After looking around online, I stumbled upon this site called DHgate. They had this mini handbag for like 35 bucks. It looked pretty good, so I ordered it.
When the bag arrived, I was actually pretty impressed. The material felt decent, and the shape was similar. But it was obviously not the real deal. The stitching was a little off, and the logo was not all that. But it was a good starting point, I figured.
I got out my trusty sewing kit and some leather scraps I had lying around. My plan was to take apart the DHgate bag and use it as a pattern. I carefully ripped out the seams, making sure not to damage the material too much. Then, I traced the pieces onto my leather scraps and cut them out. I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit nerve-wracking cutting into real leather, but I took it slow and steady.
Next, I started sewing the new pieces together. I used a heavy-duty needle and some strong thread. This part took a while because I wanted to make sure everything lined up perfectly. It is not fun sewing through thick leather, let me tell you!

Ripped the seams: Used a seam ripper to carefully take the bag apart without ruining it.

Traced and cut: Used the old pieces as a guide to cut out new ones from my own materials.

Sewed it up: Put it all back together, which was a bit of a struggle, but we got there.
After a few days of work, I finally finished my “remade” bag. It wasn’t exactly like the PRADA one, of course. But it had that same classic vibe, and it was something I made myself, which felt pretty darn good. Plus, I saved a ton of money!
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s sturdy, stylish, and it holds all my stuff. Who knew a little DIY project could be so satisfying?
