Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726 Remake: Is This Affordable Luxury Watch Worth the Price?

Hey everyone, it’s your buddy here, back with another one of my little projects. This time, I decided to try my hand at remaking the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726. Yeah, I know, pretty ambitious, right? But hey, gotta challenge yourself sometimes.

So, where did I start? Well, first, I did a bit of digging around about this watch. Turns out, the black and white dial steel version of the Nautilus 5726 was only around for like, eight years? They stopped making it around Baselworld 2019, from what I gathered. Kinda sad, it’s a real looker.

Then came the fun part – trying to figure out how much these bad boys are going for these days. I scoured the internet, checked out a bunch of different sites, and let me tell you, the prices are all over the place. I saw some listed for around 89k, others at 90k, and some even higher, like 108k and 107k! Crazy, right? But that’s the thing about these watches, they are all pretty expensive. If you have extra money, you will not care too much about it, I guess. It seems like this model is pretty popular in the luxury watch world, especially the stainless steel and leather bracelet versions.

After getting a feel for the market, I started sketching out some designs. I mean, I’m no watchmaker, but I wanted to see if I could recreate the look and feel of the 5726. I focused on the details, like the shape of the case, the layout of the dial, and the way the hour markers are set. It was a real learning experience, let me tell you.

Next up, I tried to find some materials that would mimic the real deal. I played around with different types of metal for the case and bracelet. I even experimented with different finishes to get that brushed and polished look that the Nautilus is known for. It was a lot of trial and error, but hey, that’s how you learn, right?

  • Started with Research: I figured out the black and white dial steel version was only made for about 8 years and discontinued around 2019.
  • Checked the Prices: I looked all over and found prices ranging from 89k to over 108k!
  • Drew Some Sketches: I tried my best to capture the look of the 5726, focusing on the case, dial, and markers.
  • Experimented with Materials: I used different metals and finishes to try and match the real watch’s appearance.

I also tried to recreate the dial. I used some different materials to make it, but none of them turned out as good as I wanted. So I looked into 3D printing and tried to make the dial. It turned out surprisingly well, even though it’s not perfect. I also tried to make the hands, and I think they look pretty good.

The Outcome

In the end, did I succeed in perfectly recreating the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726? Nah, not really. But did I learn a ton about watches, design, and the whole process of making something from scratch? You bet I did. Plus, I had a blast doing it. It’s not about making a perfect replica, it’s about the journey, the challenge, and the satisfaction of creating something with your own two hands. And hey, maybe one day I’ll actually be able to afford the real deal. A guy can dream, right?

Anyway, that’s my little adventure in watchmaking. Hope you enjoyed hearing about it. Until next time, keep tinkering, keep creating, and keep those gears turning!
