Hey everyone, I’m back with another one of my little projects, and this time it’s a doozy. I’ve decided to get myself a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711. Yeah, you heard that right. Now, for those who know anything about watches, you know this is not an easy feat. These things are harder to get your hands on than a greased pig at a county fair.
So, first things first, I started doing some digging. You can’t just walk into a Patek Philippe store and grab one of these beauties off the shelf. Oh no, it’s not that simple. I read somewhere that there are like 246 different models, and the Nautilus 5711 is one of the most sought-after. That means they don’t make a whole bunch of them. Scarcity is the name of the game here.
I found out that the waitlist for one of these is crazy long. We’re talking 5 to 8 years in some cases. I even heard stories of people waiting longer. It’s like waiting for your favorite band to release a new album, except you don’t even know if you’ll get to hear it when it finally drops.
The Research
Diving deeper, I started looking at the different models and features. I mean, if I’m going to wait this long, I want to make sure I’m getting the right one. I scoured forums, read articles, and even watched some videos about it.
I saw that there are a few variations of the 5711, like the 5711/1A-014 with the green dial, which apparently sold at auction for over $400,000! Can you believe that? And it originally cost around $34. That’s insane! But it shows you how much these things can appreciate in value.
Then there’s the 5711/1R-001 in rose gold. I saw one of those going for 15% off, which sounds like a deal until you realize how much these things cost in the first place. They’re like little pieces of art that you can wear on your wrist, but they cost more than my car.
The Waiting Game
After all that research, I decided to put my name on a waiting list. It felt like sending a message in a bottle out to sea. You just hope that someone, somewhere, will find it and get back to you. I filled out the forms, provided all my details, and now I’m just waiting.
